The Baines group of companies was established in 1947 with Baines Transport Pty Ltd by John and Beryl Baines as a heavy vehicle hauling company. In 1978 Baines Concrete Pty Ltd at Woonona was set up and started supplying the Illawarra area with a superior ready mix concrete and pumping service.
After a few years in the concrete and construction industry John noticed a niche market for masonry blocks. After purchasing the Appin plant in 1982, Baines Masonry Blocks Pty Ltd commenced its supply and support to the construction industry.
With a production plant centrally located at Appin, it has allowed Baines Masonry Blocks to supply to an expansive geographical area ranging from Newcastle to Moruya and from the Southern Highlands to the ACT.
In 2001 Baines Masonry Blocks experienced a demand driven expansion with the purchase of a state of the art block manufacturing machine and auxiliary equipment. This made our production plant the most modern in the state at that time, which has been maintained to the highest quality to produce the products the market expects of us today.
Our new block manufacturing machine allowed us to expand our product range providing the market with two new retaining wall systems, Norfolk™ and Tasman™.
In 2007 Baines Masonry Blocks Pty Ltd purchased intellectual properties from Island Block and Paving in Tasmania. These products are manufactured under licence by various companies in Australia and New Zealand and include Norfolk™ and Tasman™ retaining wall systems, Fence Stone™ self locating fence system, Gardenstone™ garden wall system and Lockblock™ self locating wall system. All of these products are to be introduced to the market in the near future.
